O’Farrell’s planning laws in trouble

Brad Hazzard does interview

If you missed Leesha McKennys’ article in the Sydney Morning Herald on Saturday  regarding submissions on the new planning legislation from the ICAC, Australian Institute of Architects and the Law Society of NSW  you can copy this link and paste it in your browser  http://www.watoday.com.au/comment/power-to-the-people-8230-thats-the-plan-20130712-2pvjk.html

You can go to the Better Planning Network website to read the full submissions – http://betterplanningnetwork.good.do/nsw/pages/key-resources/

For example the ICAC says in part the laws will create   ‘…complexity and confusion.’

The Law Society of NSW includes  ‘If one of the purposes of the new legislation is to minimise the risk for actual or perceived corruption in the decision-making in the planning sphere, the breadth of the Minister’s discretionary powers is of concern.’

The NSW Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) says ‘… the Planning Bill explicitly replaces the Heritage Council with the Director-General as the consent authority ……   The Institute objects strongly to this proposal, which would jeopardise the values of the State’s key heritage items. ‘
