Cessnock Council legal stoush continues
This will be back before the Court on Friday 22 June for another directions hearing. Cessnock Council was represented yesterday by a senior Barrister and two Solicitors from Sparke Helmore. I represented myself.

There will be more legal proceedings involving the internal stoush at Cessnock Council today.
There will be more legal proceedings involving the internal stoush at Cessnock Council today with the Land and Environment Court assessing whether councillors can call for a third party mediator.
The Mayor commenced Supreme Court action against a group of councillors earlier this year to prevent them voting on a motion to oust the General Manager, Lea Rosser.
Councillors then voted on an urgent motion calling for an independent party to manage the legal proceedings, but the Mayor and General Manager are challenging the validity of that motion today in court.
Councillor James Ryan says it is a waste of ratepayers money.
“So we’re arguing over obscure semantics of meeting procedure,” he said.
“But the purpose is to try and stop the legal proceedings being managed by an independent third person.”
