Wonarua Artist Les Elvin – Cessnock Citizen of the Year 2012

Congratulation to Les Elvn and his family on his being awarded Cessnock Citizen of the Year at the Australia Day Ceremony today.

Les was named NAIDOC Artist if the Year in 2008. Born locally in Kearsley, Les worked as an electrician in the mining  industry for many years.

I had a good chat to Les today and look forward to having more.

How lucky we are to have people like Les drawing our attention to local Aboriginal heritage. It’s time we as a community, and the Council,  paid more attention to it and thought of ways we can showcase the fabulous aboriginal heritage that exists he in Cessnock.
