Huntlee court challenge

A Hunter residents group is confident it can overturn plans for a massive housing project near Branxton for a second time, based on environmental concerns.

Just one week after new plans went on display for the first stage of the $1.5 billion Huntlee project, the Sweetwater action group has lodged a challenge against it in the Land and Environment court.

The group’s first successful challenge embarrassed the State Government with a judge describing a land-swap deal as a “land bribe”.

Group spokesman and Cessnock Greens candidate James Ryan says it is essentially the same project, with the same flaws.

“The issue is that the same proposal has just been put back,” he said.

We challenged it on the grounds of bias, essentially we don’t believe that the development has changed and we wouldn’t have taken this action if we didn’t expect to be successful again.”
